'Red card to chanda (donation), jhanda (flag) wala': PM Modi ahead of Tripura poll

In the state that will soon hold its assembly elections, Narendra Modi unleashed a stinging attack on the Left-Congress coalition, claiming that they are "wrestling in Kerala and allying in Tripura."

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the people of Tripura to vote the Bharatiya Janata Party back into office if they wanted "assured growth peace and prosperity" and claimed that only a "double-engine administration" could bring more progress to the state in the future. In addition, Modi unleashed a harsh attack on the Left-Congress coalition in the state, accusing them of "wrestling in Kerala and allying in Tripura."

"The people of Tripura are observing growth. There is not a single household remaining in the state for which the BJP has not taken action. People have given the "chanda" and "jhanda" (flag) wala" government the "red card" as a result. Sabka Sath Sabka Bikas government is required "declared Modi during a campaign rally in the Swami Vivekananda stadium in Agartala.

In the past, when criticising the Left and Congress governments, Modi said that all they could do for the state was increase their personal wealth at the expense of the poor. He continued by saying that the funds sanctioned by the government would only be used for community development if the saffron party was elected to power for a second time.

"They'll obliterate Tripura. I implore you to support the BJP in the election so that the state can grow and the children's future can be guaranteed. Tripura ko chahiye double-engine ka sarkar (Tripura needs a double-engine government); "said Modi.

The state was pushed behind in terms of growth when they previously held political power, he said, but the BJP put the state back on the path of rapid progress.

"House construction will continue once our administration is formed after February 16th. For the construction of homes for low-income families, the federal budget has set up 80,000 crore. We have given LPG cylinders, Aayushman cards, and other things to you, as well as water connections to four lakh families.

"People desired a peaceful environment free from violence and fear. They desired a society that valued the underprivileged. And through this motivation, we were able to help the people of Tripura. Only until the BJP came to power did peace and development begin to reign, "PM said.

Jitendra Chaudhury, state secretary for the CPI-M, responded by asking, "Did the PM say anything in his speech? It's particularly bad that he delivered his speech like a party leader rather than a prime minister.

Speaking to supporters of the Congress, Modi said that the CPI-M had attacked many of its activists.

"The CPM upset the veteran Congress supporters and voters. Do you plan to forget that? You must defend yourselves against them. Development is only guaranteed by the BJP. Instead of supporting the politics of badla, we support the politics of badlav (transformation) (revenge). In this third rally in Tripura, he stated, "We are certain that we will win with a majority of votes rather than the previous year.

On February 11, Modi spoke at two rallies in the districts of Kulai in Dhalai and Udaipur in Gomati. He asked attendees to support a "double-engine" government rather of giving their support to opposition parties including the CPI-M, Congress, and TIPRA Motha.

After overthrowing the Marxist administration that had dominated the state for more than two decades, the BJP forged an alliance with the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) to become the current government in 2018.

For the election on February 16, the saffron party kept its ally and ran candidates in 55 seats, leaving five open for the IPFT. Together, the Left and Congress will run for office using the 47:13 seat-sharing ratio.

While the Trinamool Congress will run candidates for 28 seats, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma's TIPRA Motha will only run candidates for 42 seats.
